Just Landed: Seiko Prospex Black Series 2021
Seiko Prospex Black Series is inspired by the mysterious world of night diving. Now in its third year of release as a limited edition, the series has become increasingly popular since its inception. The much anticipated 2021 Black Series is a trio of Seiko’s signature designs. These include a ‘Samurai’, ‘Monster’ and ‘Tuna’ – all nicknames given by Seiko fans due to the shape and look of each case.
Black Series Samurai: Limited Edition of 8,000 pieces
The Black Series ‘Samurai’ gets its nickname from its sword-shaped hands and distinctive case shape with chamfered edges. Indeed, the case looks as though it has been sliced through with a samurai sword.
Firstly, water resistant to 200 m/660 ft, the heavy-duty 43.8mm case is in black stainless steel. Secondly, the black dial has high-visibility block-shaped hour markers and hands coated in Lumibrite. Also, a legible minute track is at the extreme edge of the dial. Additionally, a uni-directional turning bezel surrounds the dial in grey and black. Furthermore, the screw-down crown has a grid pattern for improved grip. Finally, a comfortable black silicone strap secures the watch to the wrist.
Equipped with an automatic 4R35 calibre, the Seiko Prospex Samurai Black Series Watch is limited to 8,000 pieces worldwide.
Priced at £460, the Samurai is available to purchase now. Discover more here.
Black Series Monster: Limited Edition of 7,000 pieces
Next up, the ‘Monster’ has a strong, some might say, aggressive design with it’s ‘tooth-like’ bezel. Sometimes known to polarise opinion, the Monster is a practical Diver’s watch which is certainly bold and unashamedly practical.
Also water resistant to 200 m/660 ft, the 42.4mm black case is slightly smaller than the Samurai’s. It has a similar, high-visibility dial. Additionally, a uni-directional turning bezel surrounds the dial with scalloped sections for grip at every five minute interval. Unlike the Samurai, the screw-down crown is positioned at 4 o’clock for safety when diving (the crown on the Samurai is located at 3 o’clock).
Equipped with an automatic 4R36 calibre movement, the Seiko Prospex Monster Black Series Watch is a must for anyone looking for a well-built, practical Diver’s watch.
Priced at £440, the Monster is available to purchase now. Discover more here.
Black Series Tuna: Limited Edition of 5,000 pieces
The ‘Tuna’ is the last of the three and is limited to only 5,000 pieces. It gets its nickname because of its larger diameter and bold shape like a tuna tin.
With an imposing 46.7mm diameter case in black coated stainless steel, the ‘Tuna’ has the largest case size of the trio and is designed with high visibility in mind. Firstly, the orange high-visibility hour markers and hands coated in Lumibrite make the dial legible and easy to read under water.
Secondly, a uni-directional bezel surrounds the dial with bold, indices in Lumibrite. Furthermore, a date indicator at 4 o’clock is a useful addition.
As per the Samurai and the Monster, the Tuna is also water resistant to 200 m/660 ft with a screw caseback. The screw-down crown is located at 4 o’clock.
However, unlike the other two, the Tuna is equipped with a solar movement. It charges from natural and electric light and operates for approx. 10 months when fully charged.
The Seiko Prospex “Tuna” Black Series Watch has a bold, modern design. Ideal for the active man, it is the perfect companion for your next diving adventure.
Priced at £420, the Tuna is available to purchase now. Discover more here.
