Introducing | Oris Aquis New York Harbor Limited Edition
Oris continues its Change for the Better mission with its Aquis New York Harbor Limited Edition. Collaborating with Billion Oyster Project, this pioneering non-profit is working to restore New York Harbor’s once lost oyster population. Their goal is to restore one billion oysters to the city’s waterways by 2035.
Why Oysters?
Several centuries ago, New York Harbor was home to 220,000 acres of oyster reefs. An adult oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day, while oyster colonies create ecosystems for other marine life, and form natural storm barriers. Oyster reefs are to the ocean what trees are to the forest.
What is the Billion Oyster Project Doing?
Billion Oyster Project is restoring oyster reefs to New York Harbor in collaboration with New York City communities. These include 11,00 volunteers, 8,000 students, 100 schools and more than 50 restaurant partners.
Oyster reefs provide habitat for hundreds of species, and can protect New York City from storm damage — softening the blow of large waves, reducing flooding, and preventing erosion along the shorelines. The project also runs four oyster nurseries where they grow oysters for future reef installations and conduct scientific experiments.
The Oris Aquis New York Harbor Limited Edition
Oris are supporting the project’s work through sales of the Aquis New York Harbor Limited Edition. Limited to just 2,000 pieces, the main feature of the watch is its stunning green Mother of Pearl dial. Chosen to reflect the colour of the water in New York Harbor, the patterns in the dial are also selected to mimic the movement of the water. Also, the dial is inspired by the shell of the oyster.
At 41.5mm, the Aquis retains all its powerful design and capabilities. The minimal uni-directional bezel is in relief with no top ring. This serves to draw the eye to the dial. Also, the polished numerals on the bezel complement the indexes on the dial.
Under the dial, the movement is Oris’s calibre 733, based on a Sellita SW 200-1 with a 38 hour power reserve.
On the reverse side, the caseback features an embossed engraving of oysters with the name of the Edition and the unique serial number out of 2000.
Although the watch is fitted with a green rubber strap, an additional stainless steel bracelet is also included. Presented in a special box with a strap change tool, it’s easy to swap from strap to bracelet whenever you like.
Verdict and Where to Buy

Thanks to non-profits and organisations such as Billion Oyster Project, New York Harbor is cleaner today than it has been for 100 years. However, there’s still a really long way to go.
