What’s the History of the Cushion Case Design?
The square watch design first gained popularity in the 20th century and has maintained its allure throughout the years. This style was traditionally seen on divers and sports watches and then emerged more and more on dress watches experiencing a peak of popularity in the 70’s and yet another revival in recent years. With the round-faced watch still being the most common by far, the cushion shape is a design for people who prefer a more unique twist in their fashion choices.
Petite or Grand?
The collection includes watches with two different watch case sizes. The Petite Cushion has a 31mm case whereas the Grand Cushion has a 41mm diameter. The Petite Cushion sits elegantly on smaller wrists. You can choose between a red or black vegan strap or Milanese mesh stainless steel bracelet.
In contrast, the Grand Cushion stands for elegance, masculinity and comfort. This statement piece features a date and a chronograph function allowing the wearer to track and measure elapsed time with precision. The Grand Cushion offers three strap options: deep ocean blue, forest green textile straps made from recycled plastic bottles or a black vegan leather strap. All three come as a set with an additional Milanese mesh stainless steel strap offering a second very different style for the watch.
Sustainability & Versatility
Mondaine’s commitment to sustainability shines through in the Cushion Collection. The collection’s practical interchangeable strap system allows the wearer to create multiple unique looks without having to invest in several watches. With a quick and easy strap change, it’s possible to change the style of the watch, transitioning from a colourful textile strap to a more classic Milanese mesh stainless steel strap. Also, the interchangeable strap system makes it easy to replace the strap in a few moments. This helps to increase its longevity.
Mondaine produces watches in the most sustainable way possible. Firstly, by offering timeless and high-quality watches, and secondly through the use of sustainable materials and production processes. Straps are available in a variety of sustainable materials. Vegan leather straps use the waste products of the wine making process to produce a high-quality plant-based leather. On the other hand, textile straps are made from recycled plastic bottles with a comfortable inner cork lining. Moreover, all watches are hand-assembled in Mondaine’s Swiss factory. Finally, the factory uses up to 80% energy produced by their own photovoltaic system.
