Tyneham
Tyneham from Elliot Brown is an automatic you can wear without anxiety. Inspired by one of founder’s favourite coastal retreats, it’s “everything you need and nothing you don’t” packed into a perfectly balanced 41mm case.
Movement
Chosen for reliability, the Miyota 9130 Japanese automatic is a beautiful piece of engineering. However, as it’s inherently more delicate than it’s quartz counterparts, it is protected by a two-stage shock absorption system. Firstly, a movement cage, surrounded by the brand’s proprietary shock absorber allows the whole assembly to float inside the outer case. Secondly, a balance staff shock protection system is built into the movement. Consequently, the Tyneham will take the kind of punishment Elliot Brown is renowned for. Furthermore, the movement also hacks (the crown pulls out to stop the movement spring running itself down) and can be hand-wound.
Case
Solid steel backs are precision engraved with hand drawn contour lines from Tyneham Cap on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. However, the limited edition has a sapphire caseback. This reveals the beautiful movement and custom rotor.
Furthermore, the recessed 2mm sapphire crystal is protected by a stainless steel outer bezel. Also, the bezel is case-hardened. Six times harder than marine grade stainless, it’ll remain largely scratch free for years.
Moreover, the crown is ergonomically positioned away from the wrist and neatly recessed into the case for increased durability. Also, it is knurled for optimal grip. Triple seals ensure it remains fully sealed even when extended.
Each and every watch is only declared fit for use once it has passed EB’s unforgiving pressure tests. This culminates with pressurisation in water at 300m.
Dial & Straps
At 1h on the dial, there’s a discreet 40h power reserve indicator. Furthermore, each dial has been carefully paired with precision printing or raised metallic indices to create the completely different styles that make up the collection.
Strap changes are simply managed with a single tool that locks into a 5 lobe recess machined into the end of each bar. The Tyneham strap line-up includes a smart soft grey wool felt edition – incredibly stylish whilst remarkably durable. All other Elliot Brown straps fit the Tyneham which means there are literally 100’s of customisation options.
