Max Bill
The collaboration between famous Swiss architect Max Bill and Junghans originated in the 1950’s. An architect, sculptor and product designer, Max Bill studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau. His association with Junghans began in the 1950’s when he was commissioned to design a kitchen clock for the company.
Furthermore, in 1961, Max Bill started to design purist watches for the brand. Junghans in turn, ensured that the watches were at the cutting edge of technology.
Max Bill is acknowledged as one of Europe’s greatest timepiece designers. He constantly strove for clarity and precision in his designs. Today these same values are still evident and underpin the entire Max Bill collection from Junghans.
Bauhaus Influence
The Bauhaus values of clarity and precision underpin the iconic Junghans Max Bill collection.
Firstly, cases have a large dial opening so you can see more of the dial and less of the bezel. Secondly, a domed hard plexiglass accentuates the historical charm of the watch. Coated with sicralan to ensure scratch-resistance, it is practical too. Additionally, dials are minimalist with indexes or black printed arabic hour markers. The rounded numerals were specially created by Max Bill and are a strong part of the DNA of the collection.
Whether quartz or automatic, timepiece or chronoscope, there is a Max Bill watch for everyone.
