Diamond is the most precious mineral on earth because it is incredibly hard and exceptionally old. It takes one hundred, million years of pressure on a natural piece of carbon to make the stone. It measures 10 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, meaning that very few other materials can scratch it. The romantic notion of a diamond is connected with a feeling of rarity and that which cannot easily be destroyed, therefore the diamond is a symbol of eternal love.
According to De Beers, a leading authority on diamonds, they are graded using the four C’s – cut, clarity, colour and carat. The best quality stones have no inclusions and are pure in colour.
The presence of a diamond on a watch is a sign that it is a luxury timepiece.
