Ball Engineer III Endurance 1917 Limited Edition
The Ball Engineer III Endurance 1917 Limited Edition honours Sir Ernest Shackleton and the 100th anniversary of his Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Featuring revolutionary luminosity, cold weather technology and rugged protection, the Endurance 1917 celebrates the ambition, loyalty and fortitude of one of the boldest explorers the world has ever seen.
Shackleton 1917
On their expedition, Shackleton and his crew persevered through 17 hours of darkness every day. To overcome the black of night and all dark environments, the Endurance 1917 features 15, 1mm high micro gas tubes. The self-powered tubes provide extreme readability and trusted reliability. They are also able to glow without any external power for up to 25 years. As a COSC certified chronometer, the Endurance 1917 has undergone intense testing for guaranteed precision. Find out more about COSC here. Going further, the movement uses cold temperature resistance oil to ensure ultimate timekeeping in sub-zero temperatures. Conventional oil is not sufficient, whilst Ball’s special oil blend guarantees reliable functionality in a temperature range from –40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F).
“Men wanted for hazardous journey,” began the legendary advertisement placed by Shackleton. With 27 courageous men, the explorer set sail aboard his ship, the Endurance, in October 1914. Their plan: travel through the South Pole. Yet, several months after departure, extreme conditions trapped the ship in ice. Exploration turned to survival. Months on end, the crew lived on the frozen sea. At their darkest hour, Shackleton embarked on a rescue mission to a nearby whaling station. Guided by his indomitable spirit, he illuminated a path against all odds. After almost two years, all 28 men shocked the world with their return.
