Tyneham’s elegance comes from the relationship between two views; from the side, the case appears almost slabby, with only a deliberate, tapering undercut surface next to your wrist to soften its lines. In plain view however, the brand’s trademark deliberately short, narrow shoulders transform it into something luxurious yet clearly robust with shoulders that are slender for the apparent heft of the case. It’s this relationship between the two views that makes Elliot Brown cases so individual.

To ensure the bezel protects the crystal without appearing to do so, Elliot Brown have mounted the crystal fractionally below the edge of the bezel. This is in order to help protect the traditionally vulnerable edge from chipping. The bezel is then hardened to 1200HV0.05 – six times harder than standard stainless steel. Consequently, the bezel is able to shrug off bumps and scratches longer than an unhardened equivalent but doesn’t draw attention to itself.

The grey sunray dial has a deliberately unobtrusive power reserve indicator tucked out of the way at 1 o’clock. Additionally, the small hour markers and bold, SuperLuminova-filled hands glow green in the dark.

Movement

The Tyneham’s movement is a Japanese-made Miyota 9130 automatic with a 40hr power reserve, hack (- the second hand stops when you pull the crown out), and hand-wind. As well as Miyota’s shockproofing system fitted as standard to protect the balance staff, the Tyneham also uses an improved version of the shockproofing system Elliot Brown developed for the Canford and Bloxworth.
In order to protect the inherently delicate automatic movement, the shockproofing elastomer inside the Tyneham is larger in cross-section than the elastomers used in the brand’s quartz watches. In conjunction with a raised section inside the caseback and a floating movement ring, it supports the movement from every direction.

Strap

Finally, a black matt nubuk finish strap secures the watch to the wrist. Designed to age gracefully, it doesn’t stretch or shrink if it gets wet. With nylon inserts for strength, the strap is secured with a deployant buckle complete with luminous EB shield. However, a variety of rubber and webbing straps are also available and look great with this watch. With a handy screwdriver included with the watch, it’s incredibly easy to change the strap yourself. The strap fixing bars simply screw into the case with no flimsy spring bars to contend with.
