A Watch with Motoring Heritage
The Meister Driver Automatic Watch is a must-have for all classic car aficionados. German brand Junghans is intrinsically linked to automative history. Arthur Junghans was passionate about motoring and in 1892 he bought one of the first Daimler test cars, delivered to him by Wilhelm Maybach in person. A close friendship developed between Arthur Junghans, Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler. All three were technically minded and from the same region of South West Germany. Consequently, Junghans, Mayback and Daimler would meet to generate ideas, with these in turn producing significant inventions such as worm gear steering and the idea for electrical ignition.
In 1905, Arthur Junghans’ son Oskar set a milestone in the field of car clocks. As predecessors to the modern tachometer, car clocks enabled speed to be determined by by measuring the time taken to travel known distances in addition to telling the time. Oskar based the measuring method on measuring the rotation speed of the wheel of an automobile with the turns of a gear wheel.

Today, Junghans pays homage to the excitement and adventure of the early days of the motoring era with this distinctive Meister Driver Automatic with burgundy detailing. The look is reminiscent of a classic car, but with all the technological know-how of this uncompromising watchmaking brand.
Classic Car Detailing
Housed within the 38.4mm rose gold PVD coated stainless steel case is a reliable J800.1 self-winding movement. With a 38 hour power reserve, the automatic movement can be easily viewed through the glass exhibition screwed caseback.
The glass is a convex, hard plexiglass which has been coated with Sicralan to enhance scratch resistance. Underneath, the dial resembles a speedometer with large, burgundy minute and hour markers based on the speed indicators of cars. The two tone dial reflects the colour contrast of classic car paintwork in a white lacquered finish with a central chapter ring in grey. The burgundy arabic numerals really pop against the neutral dial. The black steel hands are coated with an environmentally friendly luminous substance to ensure maximum legibility in poor light conditions.
Finally, the Meister Driver is completed with a smart burgundy calf leather strap to coordinate with the numerals on the dial. The underside of the strap is perforated, a detail taken from the interior of a classic car.
