Seiko Prospex 1968 Re-Interpretation

The Seiko Prospex 1968 Re-Interpretation is one of a series of reimagined watches for 2020 that celebrate Seiko’s diving heritage. This watch is inspired by the Seiko 1968 Diver’s 300m watch. This was Seiko’s first high-beat diver’s watch and was used for the first climb from Japan to Mount Everest. With its 10-beat high precision automatic calibre, one-piece structure, mono-directional rotating bezel and screw-down protection crown, the success of 1968 model laid the foundation for Seiko’s development of divers watches.

Case, Dial, Bracelet

Firstly, the 2020 version has been modernised from the original with a smaller case size, from 44mm to 42mm. Secondly, in brushed stainless steel, it has a uni-directional bezel. Furthermore, the screw-down crown is positioned at 4 o’clock for practicality when diving. Additionally, the black dial has high visibility markers and hands. These are coated in Lumibrite for maximum visibility. Also, a date indicator at 3 o’clock is a useful feature. Moreover, the stainless steel bracelet has a three-fold clasp with an extender to allow it to fit over a diving suit. Finally, the sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare.

Automatic Movement

Equipped with an automatic 6R35 automatic movement, the 1968 Re-Interpretation Dive Watch has a power reserve of 70 hours. Additionally it is accurate to +25 to -15 seconds per day.
