Seiko Prospex Black Series 1970 “Willard” Re-interpretation 2022
This Seiko Prospex Black Series 1970 Re-interpretation is a Limited Edition of just 5,500 pieces. Now in its fourth year of limited edition release, the popular Black Series takes its inspiration from the mysterious world of night diving. The 2022 Series has its roots in three key moments from Seiko’s diving heritage – 1965, 1968 and 1970. This particular design is a modern version of the 1970 timepiece. 1970 “Captain Willard”
The 1970 Diver’s timepiece was named ‘Captain Willard’ by fans after Martin Sheen’s character in ‘Apocalypse Now’. Also, Japanese explorer Naomi Uemura wore the original 1970 Diver’s timepiece to climb the highest peaks of each five continents – the first man in the world to do so.
Case, Dial, Strap
Firstly, water resistant to 200 m/660 ft the 42.7mm case is in black stainless steel. Secondly, the black dial has high-visibility hour markers and hands coated in Lumibrite. Also, the minute hand and part of the bezel are orange, the colour of night divers’ lamps. Additionally, a legible minute track is at the extreme edge of the dial. Furthermore, a uni-directional turning bezel surrounds the dial. Moreover, the watch is fitted with Seiko’s first ever original nylon strap for diver’s watches, the ‘SEICHU.” Made in Japan with a traditional texture pattern following the intricate design of Kimono belts, the strap is specifically designed for diving flexibility and durability. Finally, an additional black silicone strap is supplied with the watch.
