The Seiko Prospex “Willard” Auto Limited Edition marks the 55th anniversary of Japan’s very first diving watch. Created by Seiko, it became the benchmark for all subsequent dive watches. The Limited Edition is a recreation of the famous 1970 Diver’s Watch. This became known as the “Willard” as it was the model worn by Martin Sheen for his portrayal of Captain Willard in Apocalypse Now. Consequently, the watch became popular amongst American troops and those needing an exceptionally strong timepiece. Limited to 5,500 pieces worldwide, this is a faithful reinterpretation of the original using modern technology and materials.

Case, Dial, Bracelet

Firstly, the original 1970 model was unique in that the crown was protected by an extension of the case. Secondly, the location of the crown at the 4 o’clock position was a functional consideration that became a memorable design feature. Consequently, the “Willard” Limited Edition has the same features and flowing case shape.  Furthermore, the “Willard” Limited Edition has a blue dial with high visibility hour markers and hands. Similarly, the uni-directional elapsed time bezel is also blue. Additionally, a curved sapphire crystal protects the dial and an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface aids visibility. Finally, a solid link bracelet with extender ensures the watch can fit around a wet suit. Moreover, an additional silicone strap is included with the watch.

Automatic Movement

Equipped with an automatic 6R35 calibre movement, the “Willard” has a power reserve of 70 hours. Additionally it is accurate to +25 to – 10 seconds per day and is water resistant to 200m.
